Do you have any question marks or exclamation marks in device manager? I thought only jaclaz still had an SP 2 machine in day-to-day use. I recently reloaded this HP pavillion laptop dvnr with windows xp prof sp 2 I've basically thrown every single hp link at this thing to get the audio working.

Some drivers worked under XP, like those for minor functions like keypad and special keys. On the Windows Update homepage, choosing "Custom" will allow Windows Update to search for available device drivers.
Select the Browse hpp computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
