Those were my guys back in the day. We were actually still Shake Appeal at the time. Swervediver people are surprised that you don't actually own the recordings. I bought a Yamaha electric piano and an Italian Crumar synthesiser and started plugging them into my Vox AC30 and Marshall guitar amps and putting them through effects pedals just to see what would happen.

I agree with you that it moves around stylistically quite a bit and yet seems to work as a whole. Amelia Swfrvedriver was the singer — she went on to form Talulah Gosh who were this jangly but punky kind of thing which actually inspired Riot Grrrl quite a bit.
Because, while there are a ton of guitars, we kind of knew where they were supposed to go.

The resulting album was half-instrumental and had a kind of 'soundtrack' vibe although Charlie Francis who recorded it with me immediately heard a late 70s Eno vibe which I hadn't picked up on. Go out and see them if swervefriver can. How did you establish that sound? At completely solo shows probably, though not as a full band.
